Student Name: Dasha Tveretinova Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement: My teapot is nature themed, and I chose a leaf for the lid. I think its asymmetry and organic shape contrast nicely with the symmetrical base. I almost instantly came up with the idea of a snail for a knob because they are very cute and then thought, what could be cuter than a small snail? A small snail with a hat! For my glaze, I chose a variety of green shades that are cohesive, yet contrasting. Teacher: Amy O'Connell

Student Name: Naomi Rice Grade: Grade 10 Artist Statement: I wanted to make the objects in the picture pop off of the page as if you can almost touch them. In order to do this I focused on the shadows, highlights, and the contrast of bright colors on a black and white background. The hardest part of this project was blending colored pencil on newspaper in the skull, but I love how it turned out with the words showing through. Teacher: Amy O'Connell

Student Name: Isabella Kabat Grade: Grade 10 Artist Statement: I created an abstract sculpture using the slab technique making a teardrop shape with sharp edges. I then opened up the form in multiple places applying the piercing technique. Finally, I used resist techniques while glazing to create a geometric pattern of contrasting colors. These bright colors are offset by the black glaze creating a tension between the feelings of happiness and sadness. Teacher: Brenna Johnson
Care Suspended

Student Name: Katelyn Sawyer Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: I’m interested in how the medical field has an ethical responsibility to serve the patient and how this oath has been tested during the pandemic. Therefore, Care Suspended, made in raku clay, explores patient care and its separation from medecine. To showcase this, the human heart is suspended over the torso highlighting how good health cannot be separated from the body; it's a holistic process. Teacher: Brenna Johnson
Existential Crisis
Organization or School Affiliation: Bishop Connolly High School
Student Name: Rose Hook Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: In this piece, I depicted the woman hugging herself while her head dissolves into black “pixels” or squares, and the black ground that she sits on dissipates into white squares. This piece portrays the chaos that is the mind and how someone can appear to seem “fine” but actually be falling apart on the inside.

Student Name: Madison Akin Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement: "This piece is a digitally painted self portrait. As someone who has always struggled with body image, lots of my personal work is centered around myself and trying to see the beauty within myself. My grandmother often tells me that my "colors" blend nicely with the woods and most woodland animals, so I thought I would try to capture that with my art." Teacher: Jamie Lynch

Student Name: Emily Pedersen Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement: My piece is meant to represent both myself and my friends who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. I wanted to represent both well known and less well known identities in a creative and unique way. The reason I chose a dritten is because it is a mythical creature, which symbolizes the unique and special side of the people who are part of this community. Teacher: Jamie Lynch

Student Name: Rachel Yan Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: This piece is one of my first adventures into the world of printmaking. I wanted to conceptualize the spread of information as it pertains to the internet, and how the inconsistent nature of printmaking reflects the fast paced spread of misinformation in our modern, technological age. I used a method of intaglio printing, where I etched into recycled, flattened milk cartons to create my plate. Teacher: Veronique Latimer
The Stanley Parable
Organization or School Affiliation: Wayland High School
Student Name: Calvin Chow Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: My piece is inspired by the video game "The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe", which tells the story of Stanley, a worker at an office building, and his adventures after his coworkers suddenly go missing. The game has many endings, so I chose some of my favorites and made each panel of the star book themed after one of them. I used pen and watercolor and the structure of the book to create depth. Paper Parrots

Student Name: Annika O'Steen Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement: Inspired by Nikki McClure’s papercut art, I incised a single piece of black paper to reimagine an old photo of my mother and her brother. The continuity of black lines echoes the interconnectedness of my family. The colors of the parrots, perched on their arms like birds on a wire, add visual interest while highlighting humankind’s place within the natural world. Teacher: Veronique Latimer

Student Name: Katherine Lambert Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: This piece combines three scenes from some of my favorite movies that I interpret to be both visually and thematically similar; in each scene, the character stands alone, thinking about who they are in terms of how they connect with others. The piece is done in a relatively loose, painterly style which I think brings originality to what otherwise might just have been recreations of existing work. Teacher: Veronique Latimer

Student Name: Marin Withrow Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement: A photograph, to me, speaks most when it presents an image from an odd sort of angle. The photograph that served as reference for this piece was taken crouching on the ground in an attempt to get the funny sign. The building and its shingled stature, ended up capturing a kind of maximal feeling to me. I tried to focus on the technical linework and the perspective as much as possible while working. Student Name: Jessica MacDonald Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: This piece of artwork consists of a drawing of the human arm and chest with an IV bag placed in the arm. It is set on a background of pill bottles with orange, yellow, and blue colored wax dripping down the back. I tied these colors all the way through the artwork, going from the IV drip into the veins. This piece is meant to signify the impact of drugs and how one may become reliable on them. Teacher: Erin Jameson

Student Name: Miguel Colon Grade: Grade 10 Artist Statement: When devastation crosses the human mind, regardless of its skill, it must find a way to hone it and release it one way or another. Without such a means of relieving itself, it will suffer tremendously as a result of letting devastation flood the folds of the brain. This lends the brain to being both the greatest and worst in such regards. One may even consider it maladaptation. Teacher: Sarah Richards

Student Name: Matteo Bonanno Grade: Grade 9 Artist Statement: Suppressed from being herself, her feelings, her looks, she never stopped to let her feelings out. She would talk to herself for comfort knowing she liked being alone. Maybe she did want company, but being alone never bothered her. She always had a fantasy that would go on and off in her brain, constantly telling herself anytime she felt alone.

Student Name: Alexandra Cousineau Grade: Grade 10 Artist Statement: The search for perfection in anything leaves scars on what is truly important. The fight against my desire to seek the best had left me wondering an blind aimless path. This piece represents the overthinking that had ruined my love for art in the past, and had turned it into more of a chore. But my desire to create from the heart outshine the frustrations, especially with the support from others. Teacher: Jamie Lynch
Left Out
Organization or School Affiliation: Fairhaven High School
Student Name: Grace Dupre Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement: My art piece is intending to communicate how it feels to be left out or stressed out. High school students deal with a lot of stress and as you can see Jenna in the pictures is zoned out. She is performing the anxious and sad emotions of real life problems. It does not feel good to be left out, and Jenna portrays how one can feel when that happens. Teacher: Christine Neville
